The Toneelschuur in Haarlem is a extraordinary theater building. It is designed by Dutch illustrator and designer Joost Swarte, a Haarlem resident. He made his first draw for the theater in 1996 and worked from there, together with Mecanoo Architects. The construction started in April 2001, and in May 2003 the Toneelschuur was officially opened.
The Toneelschuur is an ideal venue for the Illustration Biannual 2010; a colorful three-dimensional illustration, constructed of a great variety of materials like glass, masonry, plaster work, wood, concrete and copper. website joost swarte
