Siegfried Woldhek

presents his work  Saturday June 2, 2012
Siegfried Woldhek (NL) has made over 1200 portraits of writers and politicians. As a portraitist, the versatile and socially engaged Woldhek has a special interest in faces. In 2008 he ‘revealed’ the true appearance of Leonardo da Vinci for TED. Early 2012 he was awarded the Dutch Inkspot Prize 2011 for best political drawing, for a portrait of State Secretary Henk Bleker. Apart from being an illustrator, Woldhek was managing director of the Netherlands Society for the Protection of Birds and CEO of the Dutch branch of the World Wildlife Fund. Museum Atlas Van Stolk in Rotterdam has 500 of his portraits in its collection, and the New York Metropolitan Museum obtained two of his illustrations. Those were presented in the exhibition Infinite Jest: Caricature and Satire from Leonardo to Levine (September 2011 – March 2012).
