Illustration Biennial – DJ in Toneelschuur Café
In addition to the presentations in the main hall there are freely accessible activities in the lobby and café, like:
Vinyl is hot and record covers are a great format. That’s why the Illustration Biennial has asked ten illustrators to design a record cover for their favorite song or album. The musically inspired illustrated covers and the creation process are shown Sunday, May 27th.
Limited editions and recycle silkscreen printing
Anyone who brings a shirt or some other piece of textile to the Toneelschuur on Sunday 27 May can have it printed with a design by participating illustrators. Grafisch Atelier Haarlem‘s screen printing installation will be set up in the lobby.
Pop-up gallery and shop
In collaboration with Boycott Books from Amsterdam, the Illustration Biennial presents its traditional pop-up museum shop with special work by participating illustrators, such as limited editions and prints on paper, textiles and other materials.
Students illustrate ‘resistance’
The Illustration Biennial teams up with a Dutch art academy in the Netherlands every edition. This time, students from AKV|St. Joost from Breda/’s Hertogenbosch will get an assignment about ‘resistance’. A selection of the submitted work will be shown. This project is realized together with Drawing the Times, platform for graphic journalism.
On screen in the lobby

Portrait-gallery and VR-installation
Get portrayed live by Gijs Kast in the lobby, and lose yourself in the virtual world of Jesse Strikwerda who is present with his VR installation.
Action and illustration
Amsterdam based art collective and feminist zine Piss Wife presents its first zine. And their members will draw live! Write down what you are ‘pissed’ about and they illustrate it (or draw the solution for your annoyance).
