Johan Kleinjan (1974) has been commenting on the world in colorful paintings and pencil drawings for the past 20 years. He has a distinct, raw style, that forces you to take a closer look at the ordinary things in life. He always carries pencils and a sketchbook because he likes to draw people in their own environment, preferably without them noticing. He also draws plants and buildings, and buildings with plants. Johan studied illustration at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam. In the last year of his studies, he did an exchange with Tokyo Zokei University in Japan. He worked as an artist in residence in the Chinese cities of Beijing and Chongqing.
